Senior Purchasing Agent - Electrical Construction
Location: Florham Park, NJ (On-Site)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Compensation: Up to $155,000
Employment Type: Temp-to-Perm or Direct Hire
Union Experience: Preferred
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Purchasing Agent to support procurement operations within a fast-paced electrical construction environment. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, equipment, and services to support multiple active projects while ensuring cost efficiency and on-time delivery.
Strong electrical construction purchasing experience A MUST and can effectively collaborate with project teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing
  • Procure electrical materials, equipment, tools, and subcontracted services for active projects
  • Review project plans, specifications, and purchase requisitions to determine material needs
  • Generate and manage purchase orders in line with project timelines and company policies
  • Source competitive pricing while maintaining quality and delivery expectations
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors and suppliers
  • Evaluate vendor performance (cost, quality, reliability, service)
  • Build and maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships
Project Coordination
  • Partner with project managers and estimators to support budgeting and forecasting
  • Coordinate deliveries to jobsites and warehouses to align with schedules
  • Track lead times and proactively address potential delays or supply chain risks
  • Resolve material shortages, discrepancies, and vendor issues
  • Support project changes and change orders with updated sourcing and pricing
Inventory & Cost Control
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, including bulk purchasing
  • Track procurement costs and maintain accurate purchasing records
  • Support process improvements and procurement strategies
  • Ensure compliance with internal purchasing procedures and controls
Systems & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate purchasing documentation and vendor records
  • Utilize ERP and procurement systems to track orders and spending
  • Prepare reports on purchasing activity, vendor performance, and project status
  • Assist with audits and internal reviews
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of purchasing experience within the electrical construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of electrical materials (switchgear, conduit, lighting, etc.)
  • Experience with Kojo or similar construction procurement software required
  • Proven negotiation skills and vendor management experience
  • Ability to support multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of construction schedules and material lead times
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems
Pay Details: $55.00 to $75.00 per hour
