About the Role
ZeroTouch Manufacturing, part of Sandvik, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Tualatin, Oregon.
In this role, you will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for investigating, diagnosing, and resolving complex issues across advanced automation, precision metrology, and electro-mechanical systems. Acting as a technical escalation point for critical customer, field, and internal engineering challenges, you will leverage your expertise across hardware, software, controls, and manufacturing technologies to improve system performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
This position offers the opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams while solving highly technical challenges that directly impact cutting-edge automation and precision measurement solutions used by customers around the world.
What You'll Do
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues across automation, inspection, and electro-mechanical systems
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for critical customer, field service, and internal engineering issues
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using system logs, telemetry data, diagnostics tools, network analysis, instrumentation, schematics, and customer feedback
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and service teams to resolve cross-functional technical challenges
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including power distribution, motors, sensors, actuators, safety circuits, industrial I/O, and communication interfaces
  • Analyze software behavior, system interactions, and diagnostic data while working closely with software development teams
  • Evaluate the impact of subsystem changes on overall system performance and reliability
  • Develop test plans and support validation, acceptance testing, installation, and customer follow-up activities
  • Create and maintain troubleshooting guides, service procedures, technical documentation, and knowledge base content
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, service teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the advancement of engineering best practices

  • 5-8+ years of engineering experience, preferably within automation, machine design, robotics, metrology, or advanced manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting products through design, debugging, validation, production, and customer deployment
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Precision Mechanical Design
    • Motion Control
    • Robotics
    • Optical Systems
    • Metrology
    • Algorithm Development
    • Data Analysis and Statistical Methods
  • Familiarity with measurement systems analysis and statistical analysis methodologies preferred
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and Product Data Management (PDM) systems
  • Experience developing and executing system validation and troubleshooting methodologies
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals combined with software troubleshooting capabilities
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues spanning hardware, firmware, controls, networking, and application software

  • Domestic and international travel of approximately 10-30% is required.
