Job Title: Department Manager

Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager, Floor Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

The department manager is responsible for the smooth operations of their assigned department(s) within the store. This person is accountable for merchandise availability, department standards, and customer service within the assigned area. The department manager will utilize product knowledge to support sales as well as teach, direct, and support other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet all customers with a smile and friendly attitude
  • Show ownership of assigned department(s) by managing all aspects of the department(s) including, but not limited to: customer service, ordering, receiving, merchandising, executing displays and corporate guided sets
  • Ability to anticipate product needs due to upcoming ads and/or promotions
  • Communicate any challenges to the appropriate corporate category manager
  • Ability to coordinate ordering from multiple avenues: auto orders, Lewis Distribution Center, direct from vendor, etc.
  • Constantly check and rotate dated items and remove out dates (if applicable)
  • Ability to learn the receiving process using invoices and verifying information
  • Merchandise and stock product daily including any necessary cleaning and front facing
  • Maintain a neat and clean work space
  • Promote Lewis initiatives and represent Lewis in a positive manner to our customers and communities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (or in progress)
  • Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly
  • Excellent communication skills and problem solving skills
  • Basic math and computer skills

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and remain stationary for long periods of time in addition to moving about the sales floor to access product from varying height levels
  • Must be able to constantly operate a cash register
  • Ability to lift/move items up to 10 lbs constantly, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally with or without accommodation
