Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a strategic, results-driven Key Account Manager to strengthen and expand our business relationship with Lumen. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of the telecommunications industry, strong negotiation skills, the ability to manage complex contractual negotiations and a proven ability to build trusted partnerships that drive profitable growth for Corning.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy to strengthen Corning’s relationship with Lumen and support long-term account growth.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities within the account to expand revenue, market share, and strategic value.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Market Development, Product Development, Pricing, Product Line Management, Applications Engineering, Customer Service, Systems Engineering, and Technology to deliver aligned strategies and a consistent customer experience.
  • Monitor industry trends, customer requirements, buying drivers, and competitive activity to identify profitable growth opportunities and mitigate potential risks.
  • Lead regular meetings, business reviews, and presentations with Lumen stakeholders at all levels, from field teams to executive leadership, to review performance, address issues, and advance new opportunities.
  • Develop and implement account and distribution program plans that deliver integrated product, process, service, and technical solutions aligned with Corning’s value proposition, while supporting sales team members with subject-matter expertise.
  • Negotiate and manage complex, multi-year contracts in partnership with Pricing, Product Line Management, and other internal stakeholders, while providing leadership with updates on account performance, business development activities, partnership status, and sales forecasts.

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in account management or business development, preferably within the telecommunications industry
  • Strong understanding of Lumen’s business operations, market dynamics, and competitive landscape
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills, with a strong executive presence.
  • Ability to support all levels within the organization, from the field level to the C-suite
  • Existing relationships within Lumen are highly desirable

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 50% as needed to meet with customers
  • Position can be based in Charlotte or other locations near a major airport

The range for this position is $121,441.00 - $166,982.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
