ExcitingOpportunity at MSK: Cancer Registrar II

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) stands at the forefront of the fight against cancer, pioneering breakthrough research and delivering world-class patient care! As a Cancer Registrar II,you'llbe an essential part of this mission-capturing and curating the critical data that drives lifesaving discoveries, informs treatment decisions, and shapes the future of oncology. Yourexpertiseensures the accuracy and integrity of MSK's cancer registry, directly supporting groundbreaking research and exceptional patient outcomes.

Role Overview

  • Review electronic medical records todeterminepatient eligibility for inclusion in the Cancer Registry Database

  • Abstract demographic, clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and epidemiologic data per established standards (ACoS/CoC, SEER, AJCC, NYS DOH)

  • Accession all reportable malignancies and "reportable by agreement" tumors within required regulatorytimeframes

  • Assignappropriate casestatus and analyze complete patient medical records using current oncology data standards

  • Enteraccuratecodes and text into theMetriqcancer registry software, including demographics, staging, treatment, recurrence, and disease status

  • Complete an average of 8 full case equivalents per day

  • Ensure data quality through self-review, validation metafiles, and prompt correction of errorsidentifiedby QA coordinators

  • Maintain high accuracy rates as measured by internal QA review and NYS DOH error reports

  • Support special projects and priority cases as assigned by the Registry Manager

Key Qualifications

  • Current Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification or Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification

  • 4+ years of current experience abstracting cases in an accredited facility

  • Associate's degree or certified vocational training with 7-10 years of relevant experience preferred; bachelor's degree preferred

  • At least 2 years of practical abstracting experience using DxYr2018 (or current) oncology coding

  • Current hands-on experience withMetriqcancer registry software

Core Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and malignancy disease processes

  • Strong attention to detail and consistent accuracy in high-volume data abstraction

  • Proficiencywith Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet-based research tools

  • Ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, and meet regulatory deadlines

  • Reporting To: Manager II, Cancer Registry
