Job Description

Ambulatory Medication Access Coordinator (AMAC)

Empowering Access. Elevating Outcomes.

Join our patient-centered team dedicated to removing medication access barriers and optimizing ambulatory care. As the Ambulatory Medication Access Coordinator (AMAC), you'll play a vital role in streamlining access to high-cost, take-home specialty medications-ensuring timely treatment for patients and clinical efficiency for providers.

Working across clinics, payers, and pharmacy operations, the AMAC serves as the point person for medication access navigation, insurance coordination, and reimbursement optimization. You'll advocate for patients through complex benefit investigations, prior authorization support, and financial assistance programs-making a measurable impact in lives and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between TMC patients, ambulatory care teams, and the pharmacy department for medication access and reimbursement issues

  • Conduct detailed benefit investigations and complete insurance prior authorizations for high-cost outpatient medications

  • Identify financial assistance programs, including manufacturer-sponsored support, grants, and alternative coverage options

  • Monitor, track, and resolve issues related to payment denials, coverage gaps, and under-reimbursement

  • Compile data and reports for contract optimization, utilization trends, and payer performance

  • Assist in developing and refining workflows that promote clinic efficiency and timely patient access

  • Refer patients to copay assistance and charity programs, when applicable

  • Collaborate with internal pharmacy teams and external payers to maintain excellent service continuity

  • Perform retrospective utilization reviews for denied claims and recommend process improvements

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field OR an equivalent combination of education and healthcare/pharmacy experience
3 to 5 years of experience in healthcare access, specialty pharmacy, prior authorizations, or insurance benefit management
Registered Pharmacy Technician in Missouri at time of hire
National technician certification (PTCB or equivalent) within 6 months of hire
Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, databases, and electronic health systems
Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
Ability to work independently and prioritize in a dynamic, high-volume environment
Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal abilities across diverse clinical teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with medication reimbursement and billing processes

  • Familiarity with pharmacy benefit management (PBM), prior authorization platforms, or EHR systems

  • Understanding of insurance coverage, medical/pharmacy coding, and ambulatory care workflows

  • Proven track record in securing patient access to specialty medications

Why This Role Matters:

The AMAC is critical to ensuring our patients get the right medications at the right time-with minimal delays or financial hardship. If you thrive at the intersection of healthcare operations, access advocacy, and pharmacy services, we want to hear from you.

Join us in improving lives through access and equity in care.
