General Surgery Categorical PGY-4 Resident

The General Surgery Residency Program at Rutgers Health/Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ has an ACGME accredited categorical training position available at the PGY-4 level beginning July 1, 2026. Please see the specific requirements and instructions for applying below. Please be aware: Rutgers Health/Community Medical Center sponsors J-1 Visas only.

Prerequisites (no exceptions):

  • Successful completion in good standing of three (3) years in an ACGME accredited general surgery residency training program (or currently enrolled in a PGY-3 year for the 2025-2026 academic year).
  • Must have graduated from an accredited medical school or
  • International Medical Graduates must have a valid ECFMG certificate (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates).

Requirements:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Brief Personal Statement
  • Medical School Diploma and Transcript
  • Dean's Letter
  • USMLE Parts I, II, III scores (must be first pass) or COMLEX I, II-CE, III scores
  • ABSITE scores and reports for all years completed
  • Three (3) current Letters of Recommendation, including one from the current Program Director, will be required.
  • Current year semi-annual Evaluation
  • Current ACGME "General Surgery Defined Category and Minimum" and "General Surgery Year 2 Minimum" case log reports
  • BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certification (all unexpired)
  • FLS and FES Certifications (if applicable)
  • Copy of ECFMG (if applicable)
  • Copy of current DS2019 for J-1 Visa holders (if applicable)
