Job Description:
Software Developer (Contract - 6 to 8 Months)
Role Summary
Our client is seeking a Developer to support ongoing UDG and ServiceNow-related initiatives. This role is ideal for a strong Software Developer with a solid coding background rather than a traditional ServiceNow-only developer. The team has found the most success training strong developers on ServiceNow, rather than hiring ServiceNow specialists without deep programming expertise.
The developer will work closely with technical leads and project stakeholders, contributing to both front-end and back-end development efforts while learning and expanding their ServiceNow platform knowledge.
Required Qualifications

• Object-Oriented Programming experience
• Adam said:
• "Object-oriented programming experience would be a hard requirement, meaning that they need to know how to code in some language."
• Ability to code in a modern programming language
• Adam explained that OOP means they need to know how to code "in some language," and said most modern languages would apply, with the exception of older examples like COBOL.
• JavaScript experience
• Adam said they will likely end up with someone who has JavaScript experience.
• Coding background
• Adam said the team finds the most success with people who "just come with the coding background" and then learn ServiceNow.

Preferred Qualifications

• Node.js experience
• Adam specifically said JavaScript experience with Node.js would be nice and explained that Node.js is the runtime engine for JavaScript on the server side.
• React experience
• Adam specifically mentioned React as one of the technologies he would hope to see.
• Vue, React, or Angular experience
• Adam said seeing Vue, React, or Angular shows him that the candidate has front-end experience.
• Front-end experience
• Adam said Vue, React, or Angular would indicate front-end experience.
• Back-end experience
• Adam said he is hoping for JavaScript experience with Node.js, and described Node.js as server-side JavaScript.
• ServiceNow experience is not required
• Adam said the team can train the person on the ServiceNow stuff.

What Makes a Strong Candidate
The ideal candidate:

• Has a real coding background. Adam said the team finds the most success with people who come from a coding background and then learn ServiceNow.
• Has JavaScript experience. Adam said they will likely end up with someone who has JavaScript experience.
• Ideally has Node.js or React experience. Adam specifically said, "hopefully with like Node or React."
• May have front-end experience with Vue, React, or Angular. Adam said those technologies show him that someone has front-end experience.
• Can be trained on ServiceNow. Adam said, "We'll train them up on the ServiceNow stuff.

Experience Level

• No hard "years of experience" number was locked in.
• The client wants to see what the market looks like first and evaluate profiles case by case.
• Flexibility exists as long as the technical foundation is strong.

Location

• Strong preference for local candidates in Cleveland, OH
• Candidates in Buffalo, NY will also be considered

Adam said:
"Unless you find a diamond in the rough, we're going to end up with somebody that has JavaScript experience, hopefully with Node or React... We'll train them up on the ServiceNow stuff."
And then he doubled down by saying:
"We seem to find the most success in the people that just come with the coding background and we teach them ServiceNow versus the other way around."
