Job Summary:
Vanderbilt Health - Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a Director, Nursing Operations, Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital.
Reporting to the Associate Nursing Officer.
Provides administrative oversight and leadership for staffing operations and patient throughput functions. Participates in the development and execution of operational and strategic functions and processes to achieve clinical, staffing, and patient flow goals. Their responsibilities include: fiscal accountability, maintaining quality and regulatory standards, optimizing workforce utilization, and supporting a high level of patient/family centered care and service. Leads efforts to proactively manage census fluctuations, maximize capacity, and remove barriers to efficient patient placement while enhancing patient and staff satisfaction. Oversees program development, team management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure integration across the clinical enterprise. Provides feedback, coaching and mentoring to less experienced peers and other members of the health care team.
Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt ("Monroe Carell") in Nashville, Tennessee. Monroe Carell is a 343-bed hospital, with a 48 Emergency Department rooms, 3 surgical locations, 21 operating rooms and over 400,000 clinic visits annually.
Monroe Carell is rapidly growing, along with the Nashville, Tennessee market. Monroe Carell is a large pediatric hospital on the Vanderbilt Health campus. The Children's Enterprise network, within the Vanderbilt Health network, serves a population well beyond the Nashville market through a robust and growing ambulatory network serving middle Tennessee and expanding.
Monroe Carell Children's has a rich history of nursing excellence and has received its fourth consecutive Magnet designation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates optimal patient journey for seamless execution of plan of care as patients progress according to patterned pathways.
  • Develops goals and objectives for the department based on interpretation of institutional policy and goals.
  • Engages with Palliative Care services and the progression of skill of institutional multidisciplinary discussion of "goals of care" with patients.
  • Initiate changes in or develop new policies, procedures and/or methods.
  • Ensure the most effective operations of the department through program development, process improvement and coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
  • Engages bedside nurses in formal nursing research for relevant patient improvement opportunities.
  • Standardize services, processes, resources, and practice to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure standards are met within area of responsibility to assure clinical enterprise accreditation/licensure.

Qualifications:
  • Nursing degree required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Doctorate in Nursing.
  • If nursing degree at Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) level, then masters can be non-nursing degree. (Required) and 5 + years experience.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working in a highly complex, matrixed Academic Medical Center, with relevant leadership experience.
