How hard is it to get into perfumery?

Getting into perfumery as a junior perfumer typically requires a strong background in chemistry, fragrance composition, or related fields, along with specialized training or certifications. Entry can be competitive due to the niche nature of the industry, and building a portfolio of scent creations and gaining experience through internships or apprenticeships can improve chances of entry.

Why does Gen Z love perfume?

Gen Z consumers are drawn to perfume because of its role in self-expression and individuality, which are important values for this generation. As a junior perfumer, understanding these preferences can help create fragrances that resonate with younger audiences who value unique scents and personal identity.

How do I start off a perfumer?

To start as a junior perfumer, gaining a strong foundation in chemistry, fragrance ingredients, and scent composition is essential. Many begin with a relevant degree in chemistry, cosmetics, or fragrance design, and gain experience through internships or entry-level positions in fragrance houses. Developing a good sense of smell and familiarity with perfumery tools and techniques is also important.

What is the difference between Junior Perfumer vs Perfume Evaluator?

How do you become a perfumer with no experience?

To become a junior perfumer with no experience, individuals typically start by gaining knowledge of fragrance ingredients and scent composition through self-study, online courses, or formal education in chemistry or cosmetic science. Internships or entry-level positions in fragrance houses can provide practical experience, and developing a strong sense of smell and understanding of industry tools are essential steps in building a career in perfumery.
