Job description

Slitter Operator 1 - Third Shift

Description:
Our Slitter Operator supports Mativ's Sustainable & Adhesive Solutions Function. This individual is responsible for all aspects related to setting up and operating several slitters used for converting jumbo rolls of adhesive products into smaller rolls. Operation generally involves the loading of a jumbo roll onto unwind, adjusting machine components for the specific product, slitting and rewinding continuous strips of adhesive product onto cores. The role includes inspection of the web while slitting and booking of completed product. Operation will also include understanding packaging requirements and packing or instructing others to pack. At all times, the Slitter operator is to provide guidance to the team at the work cell and is to work in conjunction with other slitter operators to expedite change overs and trouble shooting. This position reports to the Production Supervisor. The shift schedule is 6p-6a.
responsibilities:
  • Obtains work orders from the supervisor as required.
  • Responsible for the timely production of quality products in accordance with established standards.
  • Prior to start up performs required safety checks and inspection
  • Acquires material specified in the work order BOM.
  • General set up of the specified equipment to the specified product being manufactured.
  • Loading of jumbo onto the unwind
  • Runs job in accordance to established standards.
  • Able to label all products and cartons per established standards.
  • Packing of product into or onto the correct corrugated packaging.
  • Inspects finished product for defects and sets aside scrap.
  • Performs booking and line clearance of all jobs.
  • Ensures that all aspects of the operation are performed in accordance with ISO Procedures.
  • Removes/provides required quality samples for submission to QA department.
  • Alerts shift supervisor to any quality issue or machine malfunction.
  • Performs minor maintenance duties and repairs as required.
  • Responsible for cell housekeeping and assists with general department housekeeping as required.
  • Promotes teamwork. Organizes the workstation to maximize efficiency.
  • Complete all necessary adjustments and fine tunes equipment to achieve maximum efficiency and quality of product.
  • Displays attributes in line with Scapa's 10 Guiding Principles
  • All duties as they pertain to the Packer role if required.
  • Ensures that all aspects of the operation are performed in accordance with ISO Procedures.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of equipment.
  • Participation in continuous improvement programs to enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Assist the department as required.
  • Participation in cost out initiatives
  • Other duties as required.

qualifications:
Required
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Proven ability to work as a team within a diverse workforce in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative to learn and accept additional responsibility.
  • Acceptable attendance record
  • Ability to foster creative change in an established team environment.
  • Computer aptitude
  • Ability to use and understand basic math.
  • Fluency in English both verbal and written

Preferred
  • Working knowledge of ERP Systems

Position Demands
Conditions are that of a manufacturing environment:
  • Air Temperatures can range from cold to hot.
  • The atmosphere may contain dust, fumes, and odors.
  • May include mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive and radiation hazards.

Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including:
  • Safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Bump Caps
  • Protective Gloves, when performing certain tasks
  • Hearing Protection, when required.
  • Other personal protective equipment as required for certain tasks.

While performing the duties of this job the employee must meet the physical demands:
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Be able to push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds.
  • Be able to work 12-hour shifts.
  • Perform repetitive tasks.
  • Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk.
  • Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, sometimes in awkward or tight spaces.
  • Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
