Job description
USU Extension in Uintah County is seeking a creative, positive, organized, and flexible individual to support educational programming and general office operations. This is a full-time, benefited position based in the USU Extension Office in Vernal, Utah. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend hours to support community programs and events.
Extension work is fast-paced, and no two days are the same. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys variety, can adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple projects at once, and remains professional when unexpected needs arise.
- Performs office duties, including answering phones, directing calls to appropriate parties, data entry, filing, appointment scheduling, and other general duties as assigned.
- Provides administrative support, including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings/conferences, ordering, and organizing office materials/supplies.
- Greets and directs visitors in a friendly, professional manner with the objective of meeting needs.
- Sorts, screens, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail/newsletters or other correspondence.
- Ensure and manage websites and social media content is reviewed and updated regularly.
- Provides identified program support to assigned faculty and/or staff.
- Supports faculty with programming, logging, and organizing data, reviewing, and organizing papers/outlines for programs, advisory groups and county/USU administrative reports.
- Arranges maintenance of office equipment and fleet vehicles.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Skilled with technology and related software usage.
- Effectively meet and implement University and county policies and procedures and fiscal accountability requirements.
- Assists in tagging of livestock and rabbits, verifies tag numbers for shows, assists with Uintah Basin Jr Livestock show as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of experience in an office or administrative support setting; or an associate degree, vocational training, or equivalent education combined with related administrative experience.
- Demonstrated experience providing customer service in a professional office environment.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience creating flyers, promotional materials, or social media content using Canva or similar graphic design software.
- Experience using online survey design or data collection software.
- Basic proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
- Knowledge of or experience with Extension programming, including
- Home & Community, Horticulture, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and 4-H Youth Development.
- Familiarity with the mission and programs of USU Extension.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and the ability to learn new software applications.
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service while interacting professionally with the public, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to inquiries, and maintain an organized office environment.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including printers, copiers, scanners, and telephone systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive business and personal information.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
