Job description

JOURNEYMAN MECHANIC

Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation -Burlington, KS

POSITION SUMMARY

 TheJourneyman Mechanic is or has been an INPO-accredited Mechanic at Wolf Creek oranother U.S. Nuclear Plant and will provide leadership, experience, knowledgeand skill to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, surveillance, calibrations,repairs, rework, removal/installation, and preventative maintenance throughoutthe plant.  The Journeyman Mechanic willhave the knowledge and skill to use various test equipment to performmaintenance, provide feedback on procedure corrections, work instruction, walkdowns, job preparation and execution.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performanceof maintenance activities including troubleshooting, surveillance, calibration,repairs, rework, removal/installation, and preventative maintenance throughoutthe plant.  As progress is made throughthe training program, participants will assist in "moderately complete"maintenance tasks as assigned requiring application of knowledge andskills.  Ensure components and equipmentwithin system are maintained and operated efficiently.  All activities will be in accordance withplant procedures and accomplished in a safe and effective manner.

Performall aspects of assigned work including development, preparation, departmentinterface, performance, and documentation of such work.

Understandand complete pre-task paperwork including parts requisition, tool acquisition,and various permits to ensure the quality of maintenance is maintained.  Must be able to lay out work in plannedsequence, using drawings, sketches and technical diagrams to complete tasks.

Brief,lead and coordinate work crews to complete work in a safe and efficient manner.

Trainand develop personnel in technical knowledge and skills in accordance withstation policies and procedures.

Assistin performing administrative duties, including M&TE evaluations, budgetinput, self-assessments, PIR dispositions, procedure development, correctionand validation.

Plan,organize and control assigned programs to oversee that the program meets theintended function.

Performother related activities such as E-plan, fire watch, confined space, andrigging, as qualified.

Performcorrective action and maintenance, walk downs, and peer evaluations, and jobcritiques.

Provideverbal and written turnover reports to ensure job continuity and work progressstatus.Perform duties and responsibilities of an Apprentice Mechanic III.

Ensureshop, office and work areas are clean every day.

Performother duties as assigned by supervision/management.

REQUIREMENTS

This positionrequires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and five years relevantexperience or an Associate's degree in a relevant technical field and threeyears relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical fieldand two years relevant experience or completion of an accredited Electricalapprenticeship program or have completed the 6 year Navy Nuclear EM program.

Relevant experienceis defined as industrial setting/environment working and maintaining componentswhich may include, but not limited to pumps, valves, heat exchangers, dieselengines, etc.  Other items may include performing alignments, usingcranes/hoists and rigging.

Toreach full qualification status, the candidate must complete the WCNOC TrainingProgram.  Three years directly relatedexperience and equivalent training and pass the necessary performance test ofrequired skill may be substituted.

 


RegulatoryRequirements for Journeyman Mechanic:

Regulatory Requirement: Tech Spec5.3.1 [ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978] (underlined words aredefined in referenced ANSI standard). Please contact Licensing prior to deviating from these requirements orif you have questions.

Theindividuals fulfilling the function of journeyman level Mechanic shallhave three years working relevant experience.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This positionrequires the successful completion of the MASS test.

Management has theright to require this position to pass and maintain respirator fit andqualification when necessary.  This isnot an essential job function for this position, but management retains itsrights to ensure adequate numbers of respirator qualified personnel to meetstation requirements.

Thisposition requires a satisfactory work record including good attendance.

Note: This is a bargaining unit position.
