Job description

The Maine Business School (AACSB Accredited) at the University of Maine seeks applicants for a teaching faculty position at the rank of Lecturer to primarily teach Introduction to Business and similar courses, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. This will be a full-time, 10.5-month ongoing appointment, renewed annually based on satisfactory performance. The work year for this position is July 15th through May 31st. The successful candidate will have significant experience teaching at the collegiate level, with a strong preference for experience teaching general business concepts to students early in their college career. This position has in-person teaching responsibilities in Orono, Maine each semester.

The successful candidate will be expected to be an effective and engaging teacher, collaborate with the College and colleagues to increase student success, advise and mentor undergraduates and graduates in pursuit of their academic and professional goals, and make a strong commitment to the development and delivery of innovative curricula. The typical teaching load is four courses per semester at the undergraduate (and occasionally at the graduate level), with the option to reduce this to three courses per term when engaged in significant service to the College. This position plays a significant role in the "Business Bridge Week" program, which occurs the week before the beginning of the fall semester. The candidate will be expected to participate in maintenance of AACSB accreditation. Service to the College, University, and in the Community is expected.

Primary Teaching Responsibilities: The successful candidate will primarily teach Introduction to Business (or successor course) to first-year business students. This course is a foundational course which serves as the Maine Business School's research learning experience (RLE) and is built on the foundation of inquiry-based learning.  Training and oversight of the College's Peer Leaders in support of smaller cohorts of students for the RLE experience in the fall is an essential part of the teaching responsibilities of this role. As a part of our core business curriculum, the instructor of this course must integrate Assurance of Learning Outcomes into the course as determined by the faculty of MBS.

The Maine Business School invites faculty to participate as full and equal partners in curriculum development, projects, and committees related to the educational mission, and School governance. We support the professional goals and development of teaching faculty.
