Madigan Army Medical Center is one of four Level II Trauma Centers in Washington State and participates in unique partnerships with civilian facilities to provide care to non-beneficiary trauma victims beyond the gates of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Although the Army and Air Force missions have changed over the years, one thing has not changed-the natural setting of the base. Majestic Mount Rainier looms on the horizon, towering over the other peaks of the Cascade Range. From the mountains to the deep waters of Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean, the local areas abound in natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. Responsibilities
At Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) operates as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) within a high-volume, multi-specialty Level II Trauma Center. Madigan is a premier teaching facility, which means CRNAs there have a unique set of responsibilities involving both high-acuity clinical care and the instruction of residents and students.
  • Pre-Anesthesia Clinic: Conducting comprehensive evaluations in the Surgical Services Center to optimize patients before surgery, a critical role given the high volume of bariatric and orthopedic procedures at Madigan.
  • Independent Practice: Functioning with significant autonomy to develop and execute anesthetic plans, including the selection of pharmacological agents and invasive monitoring (arterial/central lines).
  • Interdisciplinary Pain Management: Collaborating with the Interdisciplinary Pain Management Center (IPMC) to provide advanced pain relief techniques for both acute post-surgical recovery and chronic pain conditions.
  • Rapid Response: Serving as a primary expert for difficult intubations and emergency resuscitations (ACLS/PALS) throughout the hospital and Emergency Department.
  • Clinical Instruction: Providing oversight, bedside teaching, and formal evaluations for Student Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) and residents.
  • Curriculum Support: Delivering in-services, workshops, and case studies to ensure the anesthesia staff remains current on the latest DoD anesthesia protocols.
  • Research & QA: Participating in Quality Assurance (QA) and Peer Review processes to maintain the high standards required for Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation.

Qualifications
Must be a US Citizen
A Graduate degree (or higher) in Nurse Anesthesia from an accredited program (CCNE, COA, or ACME).
A current, active, and unrestricted license in the specialty of Anesthesia.
