Job description

Serves as one of the part-time Building Grounds Maintenance Specialists for Ivy Tech Community College Buildings during the Monday through Friday work weeks. Area of primary responsibility is to service and operate equipment for grounds maintenance as assigned.

Job Description
Professional Standards: As a member of a professional team whose difficult job it is to achieve the highest possible standards of maintenance, it is essential that every member of the Maintenance team demonstrates professionalism that will result in a high level of productivity and efficiency. Professionalism includes the following responsibilities:

Job Knowledge - includes learning and following correct maintenance procedures; exercising the skills needed to use equipment, parts and supplies; managing time and exercising judgment in following instructions.

Dependability - includes being on time for work, giving a full day's work, and proper reporting. It also includes efficient use of time to complete a job as quickly and thoroughly as possible, following department policies and working safely. You are a part of a team, and the efficient operation of the team depends upon the reliability of each member.

Behavior - demonstrates positive behavior toward their work, and toward the College including interest in the job, initiative in making suggestions and improving the work. Must maintain confidential information, valuables, and safeguard property and equipment.

Initiative - exercise judgment and adapt procedures and working patterns to deal with the unexpected. Any regular or major change in assignment must be discussed with your supervisor. Day-to-day alterations may be made to cope with special circumstances at the judgment of the Building Maintenance Specialist.


Performs maintenance and support services in the following areas:
Main duties required by this candidate:
- Perform grounds work. This work includes trimming trees and shrubs, maintaining planting beds and applying ground chemicals and pest control as needed.
- Plant and maintain annual flower beds. This includes watering flower beds as needed.
- Maintain road and building signage, ensuring that lots, drives and sidewalks are clear of any debris or trash and applying light cold patch materials where needed.
- Assist with snow plowing/shoveling and salting walks.

The above listed duties and responsibilities will include lifting and physical exertion. Guidelines for single person lifting: NO REPETITIVE LIFTING OF OBJECTS OVER 50 POUNDS. A one-time lift or movement of objects may be necessary but only using accepted lifting procedures and using extreme caution. If repetitive lifting exceeds the guidelines, seek additional assistance.


Benefits: Free Ivy Tech courses up to 6 credit hours per semester per person for employees and dependents after six (6) full months of employment, Professional Development opportunities, and more.

Compensation:$19.00/hr a maximum of 28 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or GED with knowledge of or experience in maintenance work required. Must be able to: read; work independently; operate hand / maintenance tools, operate lawn maintenance equipment and maintain working relationships with faculty, and staff.

Driving is an essential function of this position. The incoming employee must hold a valid Indiana driver's license and complete the Driver Approval Form to obtain authorization from the Systems Office for operating any College-owned, leased, or rented vehicles as part of their job responsibilities.
