Job description

Job Summary
The Part-Time Student Pharmacy Technician assists the IU Student Health Center Pharmacist(s) in all aspects of pharmacy care as allowed by state and federal law and regulations.
Department- Specific Responsibilities

  • May also request prescription transfer from outside retail pharmacies via fax, prepare compounded medications using non-sterile processes and prepare prescription packages from dorm deliveries via campus mail as well as UPS mail.
  • Counts, pours, and labels prescriptions under the direct Supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Enters prescriptions and patient data into a computer accurately, including prescription insurance.
  • Collates written prescriptions with electronic prescriptions for patient collecting all necessary information as required by policy and procedure.
  • Greets patient(s) in a professional and courteous manner and obtain brief patient history in a timely fashion.
  • Retrieves printed prescription label information and collate with written prescriptions and electronic prescriptions.
  • Restocks prescription arena.
  • Checks in wholesaler's order/restock/manage inventory management input.
  • Enters pricing information daily into the pharmacy system.
  • Pharmacy technicians help ensure adherence to regulatory standards (HIPAA, DEA, state pharmacy laws), maintain documentation, and support safe handling of controlled substances, thus reducing legal and compliance risks
  • Answer patients questions within the scope of their knowledge (e.g., availability of medications, pricing) accurately
  • Prioritizes task-based patients' needs and staffing requirements
  • Maintains focus and pay attention to all details pertaining to daily pharmacy tasks and ensure medication safety.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 6 months of customer service experience
Preferred
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
  • Indiana State Pharmacy Technician License Upon Date of Hire

  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate. It involves remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time as well as moving around the work environment. The position requires moving and assembling objects and placing objects on high and low shelving units and storage racks. The role requires the ability to detect details of objects and the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$21.00 - $22.21 per hour, depending upon certification status
Work Hours
10-15 hours per week depending on availability
