Job Summary
This position provides administrative support to the daily operations of the IU Student Health Center Eye Clinic with exposure to healthcare operations. Ideal for students pursuing pre-health or pre-professional careers.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Greets and assists patients during check-in and check-out.
  • Answers and directs phone calls professionally; provide basic clinic information.
  • Schedules new and follow-up appointments using clinic software.
  • Verifies and updates patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Supports inventory management by tracking supplies and ordering as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Assists with general clerical duties (filing, preparing paperwork, scanning).
  • Helps maintain a clean, organized reception area.
  • Follows the Start-of-Day and End-of-Day Checklists.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with staff and supervisors.
  • May assist with clinical support tasks such as obtaining vital signs (as needed).
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University Bloomington
Preferred
  • Currently studying pre-med, nursing, dental, or public health degrees
WORK EXPERIENE
Preferred
  • Experience in customer service, healthcare, or front desk role
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
SKILLS
Required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and Outlook
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
