Position Summary
Enterprise Strategy & Architecture (ES&A) is a centralized architecture organization within the Information Technology department. ES&A supports the company's safety, reliability, affordability, and regulatory objectives by providing clear architectural direction, disciplined governance, and practical guidance that accelerates delivery while reducing risk and complexity.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Technology Architecture, this role serves as an Enterprise Architect focused on IT Operations architecture across service management, asset management, operational governance, resiliency, reliability, and compliance capabilities. The role defines and advances enterprise architecture for how IT runs, including operational workflows, escalation patterns, major incident management, problem management, CMDB, tooling integration, and service performance outcomes.
The successful candidate is a systems level thinker and master planner who translates enterprise strategy into living target architectures, prioritized roadmaps, and reusable patterns, working early and continuously with delivery and operations teams to ensure solutions are aligned, secure, and executable. Architects in this role are expected to focus on enabling outcomes and delivery.
PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity,specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint $155,000 - $210,000. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above.This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Bay Area Min: $ 155,000
Bay Area Max: $ 265,000
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and 1-2 days per week at our Oakland Headquarters based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Vision & Direction
  • Define and evolve target architecture for IT Operations platforms and shared services, providing a clear north star that guides investment, design, and modernization decisions
  • Translate enterprise and IT strategy into capability based roadmaps, identifying maturity gaps, dependencies, and sequencing required to move from current to target state
  • Own architecture outcomes across a portfolio of foundational platforms, ensuring alignment from strategy through implementation and operations

IT Operations Scope
  • Define and govern enterprise IT Operations architecture across service management, asset management, operational governance, resiliency, reliability, and compliance capabilities.
  • Architect operational run capabilities, including event and incident response, operational workflows, runbooks, escalation patterns, major incident management, problem management, and post-incident review patterns.
  • Define reliability and operational readiness architecture, including availability patterns, resiliency guardrails, capacity/performance considerations, SLOs/SLIs where appropriate, BC/DR readiness, recoverability validation, and service stability metrics.
  • Architect how tooling integration across monitoring, ITSM, CMDB, on-call processes, knowledge, runbooks, discovery, security, finance, endpoint tools, and service mapping capabilities.
  • Establish operations data, governance, and control patterns that improve telemetry, dependency awareness, configuration data quality, change governance, audit readiness, license compliance, and service performance outcomes such as MTTR, MTTD, incident reduction, availability, and stability.

Delivery Enablement & Governance
  • Engage early in planning and solution shaping, helping teams align on architecture direction, integration patterns, and non functional requirements before major commitments are made
  • Enable delivery teams through reusable architecture patterns, standards, reference architectures, and decision frameworks
  • Support architecture reviews and working sessions to surface risks, manage dependencies, and validate solution direction
  • Guide teams when deviations are required, managing trade offs and technical debt while maintaining enterprise coherence
  • Ensure architecture standards are current, practical, and consistently applied, focusing on reuse and simplification

Portfolio, Planning & Optimization
  • Support IT strategic planning, modernization, and platform consolidation efforts
  • Coordinate roadmaps across infrastructure, security, application, data, and operations teams to manage interdependencies and conflicts
  • Lead or support vendor evaluations, platform selections, and RFP activities
  • Contribute to technology rationalization by reducing redundancy and improving platform consistency

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Partner closely with business and IT leaders to align architecture with operational realities and strategic priorities
  • Collaborate across architecture disciplines to ensure enterprise wide consistency and integration
  • Coach and mentor engineers and architects, promoting strong architectural discipline and shared accountability
  • Use metrics and feedback loops to monitor progress, measure adherence to target architecture, and continuously improve architecture practices

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise, operations, infrastructure, platform, service management, asset management, or solution architecture

Desired:
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience designing or governing ITSM, ITAM, CMDB, operational workflow, automation, resiliency, reliability, or operational tooling architectures
  • Strong understanding of IT operations, ITIL-aligned practices, service and asset management, observability integration, automation, reliability, and operational data models
  • Experience writing code and supporting modern software delivery practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, code quality, and performance engineering
  • Experience architecting or modernizing large-scale IT operations, ITSM, ITAM, CMDB, AIOps, discovery, automation, or service reliability capabilities
  • Experience with major incident management, problem management, operational readiness, SRE-aligned practices, runbook automation, and service mapping
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar enterprise service management platforms, including ITSM, ITAM, CMDB, discovery, workflow automation, reporting, and integrations with operational tooling
  • Strong understanding of business and data architecture, capability mapping, and roadmap development
  • Experience operating in regulated, high reliability, or security sensitive environments
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders
  • Architecture certification such as TOGAF or equivalent practical experience
