Job description

Barback Hospitality operates Persona in San Francisco and Barrelhouse and Vinyl Room in downtown Burlingame. We're looking for a hands-on Assistant Operations Manager with bartending and management experience to help lead daily operations, coach employees, and support our growing hospitality group. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to advance into a General Manager or multi-unit leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Manager on Duty during assigned shifts.
  • Lead by example and assist behind the bar or on the floor when needed.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train employees.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff while maintaining company standards.
  • Assist with scheduling, labor management, and shift coverage.
  • Help investigate employee concerns and support disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and California employment laws.
  • Handle guest concerns and provide service recovery when needed.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, maintenance, vendor coordination, and operational projects.
  • Support payroll, onboarding, employee documentation, and HR administration.
  • Help execute private events, entertainment, and future business initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, efficiency, and day-to-day operations.

Qualifications

  • Previous bartending experience required.
  • Previous management experience in a restaurant, bar, nightlife, or hospitality environment required.
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and coaching employees.
  • Working knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ADP, Toast, scheduling software, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and comfortable utilizing AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or similar productivity platforms.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and lead by example.
  • Open availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Reliable transportation required.

Schedule

  • Full-time.
  • Work locations include Lower Nob Hill, San Francisco (parking provided) and Downtown Burlingame.
  • Must be able to travel between company locations as business needs require.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting hourly pay based on experience during the initial 90-day introductory period.
  • Expected transition to a salaried management position upon successful completion of the introductory period.
  • Benefits available after 90 days.
