Job description

The Invst Counselor Func Grp Mgr manages multiple teams of senior professionals through other senior managers. The job requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to a function as well as practical experience of multiple business cycles. In-depth knowledge of the industry and direct competitors' products/services is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/ or area of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to influence a wide range of audiences. The job is likely to be involved in both internal and external negotiations which will have a major impact on the area managed, and possibly on other related areas and organization as a whole. Develops medium- to long-term plans and executes functional strategies for a large/complex country, cluster of countries, or business requiring coordination and integration across units. Provides input into strategic decisions affecting job family or function within a region or business. Full management responsibility of multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning. Has authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on issues/activities that have critical impact or influence on company revenues, capital or business operations. Typically, a direct report to an C16 role and sits on the highest functional leadership team within a region, job function, or global business.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the effective coordination, management and delivery of all aspects of the CPB Investments Business within the region, including CIM and Capital Markets as well as the core functions noted herein. Manage both direct and matrix reports across the Investments business to ensure the business meet financial targets as well as all internal and external standards and practices.
  • Development and execution of the region's broader business strategy, including client segmentation and coverage, product positioning and development, platform and process enhancement, content delivery, regulatory compliance, risk and control, revenue and expense management.These functions are coordinated with the Regional Head and the Global Head of Investments, among others.
  • Through continuous direct client interaction, solicit client feedback on CPB's Investments business, and drive platform and product initiatives to maintain CPB's pre-eminent relevance and stated goal as trusted advisor to all target market clients. Provide leadership as the "Face" of the Investments business to all clients in the region.
  • Manages a large team of investment professionals including Investment Counselors and Product Specialists. Works effectively across the region, in close partnership with the senior leadership team for Investments, the regional management team, GMMs, RMMs, Private Bankers and other partners including Investment Finance and Trust to build strong client relationships and deliver to them the best of the Citi platform to clients. Effectively recruit, develop, promote and retain talented professionals across the NAM investments organization.
  • Effectively engage, leverage, and partner with ICG Markets, CIM and CIM-Alts to provide exceptional investment offerings to CPB clients.
  • In accordance with goals set by the Private Bank Regional Head and the Private Bank Global Head of Investments, deliver continued revenue growth through managing the cost to income ratio, proactively managing expenses and consolidating the business across the region, creating operational efficiencies and achieving agreed financial targets.
  • The incumbent should posses the following:
  • Demonstrable strong organizational skills, including the ability to clearly formulate, communicate and implement business and investment strategies; the capacity to effectively engage and influence business partners and navigate through a complex global organization; and the ability to attract, develop and retain talent.
  • Solid technical investment qualifications and experience that include the ability to formulate well-articulated views of the macroeconomic environment, investment views based on Citi's research and client specific recommendations based on their risk, needs and requirements.
  • Experience and technical understanding of Capital Markets products, including structured products and solutions, hedging and the mechanics of basic pay-off structures.
  • Experience in discretionary and advisory asset management, including a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of portfolio construction, asset allocation and risk management. The position requires broad understanding of the drivers of value across traditional, levered and alternative investment strategies.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Extensive experience in providing investment advice and solutions as well as managerial experience.
  • CFA, MBA degree or other advance degree a plus
  • Demonstrable track record in managing a business P&L; Demonstrable track record in managing sales and service functions associated with a large and complex client-focused investment organization.
  • S7, S66 (or 63) & S3; NOTE: Securities Industry Exam (SIE is a prerequisite to the S7)

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
