Job description

Job Title: Field & Shop Diesel Technician
Location: Waterloo, IA

Overview
Interstate Power Systems is looking for a versatile Service Technician to support our Waterloo operations-working both in the shop and in the field. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of equipment including Carrier transport refrigeration units, generators, heavy-duty trucks, and equipment.
If you're a technician who enjoys variety in your day, hands-on problem solving, and the ability to work independently in the field while staying connected to a strong shop team, this is a great fit.
What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain:
    • Carrier Transport Refrigeration systems
    • Generators (including preventative maintenance and repairs)
    • Heavy-duty trucks and diesel equipment
  • Perform both shop-based repairs and field service work at customer locations
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections and service work
  • Communicate clearly with customers, service team, and leadership
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and repair records
  • Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards

What We're Looking For
  • 3-5+ years of experience in diesel, heavy equipment, refrigeration, or power systems
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Diesel engines (Cummins, CAT, Detroit, etc.)
    • Transport refrigeration (Carrier preferred)
    • Generator systems / power generation
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Valid driver's license (CDL is a plus)
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively in a shop environment
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
  • Physical ability to perform job duties without restrictions
  • Technical degree or certifications preferred
