ASL Medical InPerson Interpreter (Greater Austin, TX including Kileen, Georgetown and Cedar Park)

Summary
The InPerson Interpreter (IPI) will facilitate on-site communication for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HOH) community members and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of medical settings. We combine proven technology with qualified interpreters, to allow interpreter scheduling through our AMN InPerson Interpreting (IPI) App. This freelance position is flexible and an opportunity to expand your interpreting business, with access to many sessions per day via the AMN IPI App.
As the InPerson Interpreting boutique provider of the United States, our purpose is to provide superior on-site language access by qualified InPerson Interpreters, driven to serve local healthcare facilities nationwide. Driven by “Empowering face-to-face, multilingual communication”, we are seeking professional and diverse, culturally competent, and credentialed medical InPerson Interpreters to join our skillful team to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and their patients, regardless of language or cultural barrier.
InPerson Interpreter Responsibilities
  • Provide effective onsite interpreting service for consumers.
  • Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for shifts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
  • Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context (i.e., hospitals, courts, schools, etc.).
  • Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to medical procedures.
  • Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
ASL Interpreter Minimum Qualifications
  • National certification at or above NAD level 4, RID CSC, CI/CT, CDI, NIC or BEI Advanced.
  • Extensive knowledge of the NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct and Deaf Culture ethics and standards of practice.
  • Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as other state and federal laws applied to medical interpreting.
  • HIPAA Training for Business Associates certificate (completed within the last year)
  • State licensed where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASL/English fluency, and bilingual/bicultural competency.
  • Degree or certifications in ASL interpreting practices.
  • Minimum 2 years of in-person ASL interpreting experience within a medical setting, preferred.
  • Proven national medical interpreter certification (CCHI or NBCMI), or medical interpreter training diploma (i.e.: Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, any 40-hour nationally accredited medical interpreter training course), preferred but not required.
