To thrive as an Interoperability Project Manager, you need a solid background in project management, healthcare IT standards (like HL7 and FHIR), and a relevant degree, often supported by PMP or similar certification. Familiarity with interface engines, EHR systems, and data exchange protocols is crucial for managing technical integration projects. Strong leadership, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate diverse teams and navigate complex requirements. These competencies are essential for ensuring seamless data exchange, regulatory compliance, and project success in healthcare IT environments.

How does an Interoperability Project Manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

  • This position involves collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, with communication delivered through clear documentation and presentations. While the role may involve mentoring or guiding a small team, its primary focus remains on technical leadership rather than people management.

  • Provide subject-matter expertise for network initiatives and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and incident review sessions.
  • Present and review network changes in Change Advisory Board (CAB) and Technical Advisory Board (TAB) meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to ITIL processes.
  • Support major business initiatives, including Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A).

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Networking, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 6-7 years of hands-on experience with enterprise network environments.
  • Proven ability to design, build, deploy, and support large-scale Cisco networks.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex projects end-to-end.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-layered network issues.
