Job description

Marymount School of New York seeks an experienced educator with native fluency to teach Spanish in the target language to students in Grades 2-5. Ideal candidates have a warm, patient, and engaging approach to working with middle grade children. Classes are largely conducted in the target language and aim to develop students' ear for Spanish language learning, build their vocabularies, and give them an inspiring language learning experience.

This position is preliminary affiliated with our Lower Middle School, includes responsibilities for a biweekly club period and a weekly after-school language club.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement developmentally-appropriate Spanish curriculum for grades 2-5.
  • Facilitate a biweekly club period within the school day and lead a weekly afterschool language club.
  • Cultivate an immersive classroom environment that supports authentic language acquisition.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support interdisciplinary connections and student development.
  • Partner with families regarding student progress and program goals.

Qualifications:
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Experience teaching elementary-aged students
  • A higher degree in elementary education, Spanish, or a related field is required; master's degree is preferred
  • Knowledge of research-based language acquisition practices
  • A commitment to equity and belonging in teaching practices
