Job description

Smith Industries designs and manufactures engineered process equipment and utility infrastructure solutions serving the Oil & Gas, Data Center, Utility, and Industrial markets across North America.
We are seeking motivated Mechanical and Industrial Engineering students who want hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is not a desk-only internship. Students will spend time in the engineering office, on the shop floor, and alongside operational leaders working on real projects that directly impact production, quality, efficiency, and customer delivery.
What You Will Do
  • Support manufacturing and production engineering initiatives
  • Assist with process improvement and continuous improvement projects
  • Review engineering documentation, drawings, and bills of material (BOMs)
  • Support production planning, scheduling, and project execution activities
  • Assist with material tracking, reporting, and operational metrics
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams
  • Participate in shop-floor problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Contribute to projects that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance

What We Are Looking For
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Or a related engineering discipline
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard engineering software tools
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Interest in manufacturing, fabrication, operations, project management, or continuous improvement
  • Willingness to spend time both in an office and manufacturing environment
