Airgas Dry Ice is searching for a high-energy, dynamic Vice President of Safety and Compliance to champion safety as a core value throughout the business unit and drive the safety culture. This leader will own all safety and compliance activities, including occupational, process, and transportation safety, as well as DOT, OSHA, FDA, and Environmental compliance, and will manage a staff of 7 functional experts. Additionally, the VP will serve as the Division's DOT compliance expert, managing policy, process, and driver training resources across four Business Units. The role requires the VP to be a strong business partner to the company president and other VPs, responsible for the development and execution of policies and initiatives to drive the overall safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Team Management: Serve as a key member of the Airgas Dry Ice Leadership Team, reporting to the President, and manage the Safety and Compliance department personnel, budget, and employee development.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with a broad range of federal, state, and local government regulations, including OSHA (especially PSM), EPA (especially RMP), DOT/FMCSA, and FDA, as well as Airgas corporate safety policy.
  • Auditing and Incident Response: Lead an audit program to maintain compliance across all facilities. Ensure all safety incidents (including personal injuries, vehicle accidents, and environmental releases) and serious near misses are reported, investigated, and have established corrective actions.
  • Training & Standard Practices: Establish comprehensive training on topics like driver safety, product handling, emergency response, and regulatory compliance. Lead loss control and prevention initiatives, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • External Relations: Represent Airgas Dry Ice with regulatory agencies, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Workers' Compensation: Directly manage the worker compensation program and claims management processes.
  • Culture & Security: Champion activities to empower employees to take ownership of safety and develop policies and procedures relating to the security of employees, facilities, and property.

Are you a MATCH?
Required Qualifications
  • Education & Certification: Bachelor's degree (preferably in Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field) and a Professional Safety Certification (e.g., Certified Safety Professional - C.S.P.).
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing & Fleet Safety and Compliance.
  • Industry Expertise: 10+ years of recent experience in Heavy Manufacturing Operations, FTL/LTL Transportation, and last-mile service, including leading teams of comparable size.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Must possess a thorough working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA guidelines.
  • Leadership & Business Skills: Proven expertise in leadership, team building, effective communication, problem-solving, and a strong aptitude for business and financial principles.
  • Environment: Extensive experience in managing a fast-paced, just-in-time manufacturing and distribution environment.
  • Travel: Must be open to national travel (>50% expectation).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the DuPont© Stop Program and Smith System Defensive Driving Program.
  • Extensive experience with logistics and business software (e.g., Peoplesoft, GeoTab, Lytx, SAP).
  • Strong technical abilities, including working knowledge of Google Suite and MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to think "outside of the box" and drive continuous improvement at strategic and functional levels.
  • Networking. Develop strong functional relationships across the Airgas organization.
