Job description

BRIEF SUMMARY: We're seeking a creative, curious and motivated Multimedia Communications Intern who will tell compelling stories about public health. This internship offers hands-on experience producing content across multiple platforms, including video, graphics, writing, podcasts and social media. The intern will work alongside experienced communications professionals and contribute to projects that inform, educate and engage diverse audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:      

  • Producing and editing short-form videos for social media, websites and presentations.
  • Creating graphics, infographics and other visual content for digital and print platforms.
  • Researching, reporting and writing news stories, feature articles, web posts and other communications materials.
  • Assisting with podcast production, including research, script development, recording preparation, editing and promotional content.
  • Conducting interviews with subject matter experts and community members.
  • Developing social media content and helping monitor audience engagement.
  • Supporting website content updates and digital communications projects.
  • Collaborating with communications and other APHA staff on campaigns, publications and special initiatives.
  • Participating in editorial planning meetings and brainstorming creative storytelling ideas.
  • Performing other communications-related duties as assigned.

All APHA interns also work on the Association's Get Ready campaign, writing blog posts and working on group projects each semester.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, eager to learn, collaborative, adaptable and enthusiastic about finding creative ways to communicate complex topics to broad audiences. Successful candidates are creative problem-solvers who enjoy telling stories, experimenting with new formats and collaborating with others while managing projects independently. More specifically, we are looking for:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, in journalism, communications, multimedia, public relations, marketing, graphic design, digital media or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in visual storytelling and multimedia production.
  • Familiarity with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut or similar tools.
  • Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Basic photography and videography skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital storytelling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Interest in public health, science, policy or nonprofit communications is a plus.
