Job description

Description
THE ROLE:
ProbablyMonsters is looking for a Technical Designer. You will be responsible for implementing, iterating on and supporting key combat and narrative game systems.
WHO YOU ARE:
  • You have experience shipping games as a tech, systems, or gameplay designer. You have opinions on what works and what does not based on your experiences and have drawn positive conclusions from success and failure alike.
  • You know how to ship products and understand when it's time to focus on getting game systems over the finish line versus exploring new ideas.
  • You are open-minded and enjoy being challenged with what you might consider good enough. You believe the "gold standard" is just a temporary example until something better comes along, and a better solution can come from anyone, at any time, and not just your design team.
  • You are relentless in your pursuit of making fun, creative game experiences for everyone who plays your games, but you will temper it with realistic expectations of work-life balance as a role model to your peers.
  • You are an excellent communicator capable of receiving and providing feedback professionally. You understand the power of your words and use them to hold yourself and everyone else accountable, while doing it in a respectful way.
  • You have an insatiable curiosity. You understand that learning is a life-long process and are open to understanding new perspectives and ways to develop games.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Work with the senior combat designer to implement and balance AI enemy behaviors, state trees and enemy types into the game.
  • Along with AI enemies, you are capable of designing and implementing player abilities, skills and other player-focused combat systems.
  • You understand the functional needs of the narrative team and will support them through systems implementation, blueprint creation and reviewing their technical work for game submission.
  • Write gameplay design documents as needed and work alongside peers in other departments to see your designs implemented into the game. Collaborate cross-departmentally to see your designs implemented according to a shared vision and the game's direction

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2+ years of experience as a technical, combat or systems designer.
  • Expertise with Unreal 5 Blueprints and GAS, along with scripting experience.
  • Strong documentation skills and the ability to convey technical systems for implementation.
  • Self-driven with excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Experience working on at least one multi-platform AA or AAA game.
  • Experience designing for multiplayer games and systems.
  • Knowledgeable in C++ would be a bonus.
  • Must already live near Dallas, TX, or be willing to relocate.
