Health Consulting Internships Jobs (NOW HIRING)

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a professional position responsible for supervising daily functions of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants (IECMHCs). This role is responsible for providing administrative and reflective supervision. Assists and makes recommendations to upper management staff for program design and implementation and for related personnel management and budgetary issues. Collaborates with Center leaders and Managers from other departments to support prevention and early intervention services for early childhood population, including social-emotional development and/or infant mental health.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related human service field required.
• At least one year of formal or informal supervisory experience.
• At least three years of experience working with children in a mental health/human services facility and at least at least one year of experience in the prevention/early intervention services of early childhood population, including social-emotional development and/or infant mental health population.
• A current, valid State of Michigan professional license preferred.
• Infant Mental Health Endorsement preferred.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for overseeing Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation programming in Early Childhood Education departments. Employees in these positions serve as the first line supervisor to professional staff for the entire service site as needed.
• Monitor compliance with Office of Head Start Performance Standards, policies and procedures as well as agency-specific practices.
• Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of mental health consulting in ECE centers; develops and implements processes and procedures to enhance effectiveness and operational efficiency where needed.
• Oversee the implementation of mental health-informed parenting programming (i.e., ParentCorps) at ECE centers.
• Assist and make recommendations to upper management for program design and implementation and for related personnel management and budgetary issues.
• Exercise independent judgment; have substantial autonomy in performance of work duties.
• Works collaboratively with other management team members within site, team, and the agency.
• Supervise work of professional, paraprofessional, and student intern personnel engaged in direct service work with staff, clients, and families utilizing both administrative and reflective supervision.
• Contribute to the development and/or implementation of appropriate supportive strategies for ECE teachers, staff, children, and families.
• Schedule activities of assigned employees; provide training/direction and evaluation to employees.
• Assist in developing operating budgets and ensure program area operates within it.
• Recommend appropriate action for disciplinary matters and ensure employee and programmatic compliance with Office of Head Start, Performance Standards, and agency policies/procedures.
• Work with support services team including supervisor and manager to ensure program needs are met.
• Act as liaison to external stakeholders (e.g., service organizations, referral sources, funding and regulatory bodies).
• Participate in public relations/marketing activities as needed.
• Hire, train, coach, supervise, evaluate, and terminate assigned staff and interns as needed.
• Through direct contact and supervision of employees and interns, ensure that Starfish Family Services has a positive relationship with all community groups, organizations, and programs.
• Participate in agency meetings, training, and other agency functions as needed or requested.
• Cooperate in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation, or other circumstances.
• Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management or required by the team.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Substantial clinical knowledge and experience related to mental health and professional consultation. Infant Mental Health and relationship-focused intervention knowledge preferred.
• Knowledge of how mental health professionals and their specific expertise contribute to mental health and developmental disability service delivery.
• Knowledge of Head Start standards related to mental health.
• Demonstrates ability to set and meet outcome objectives.
• Ability to work cooperatively with all program staff and support services personnel.
• Ability to advance plan and organize time and workload effectively.
• Ability to assist families in crisis.
• Ability to problem solve and make decisions, especially during crisis situations.
• Must have a working knowledge of all SFS programs.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, function independently, and demonstrate good follow-through.
• Ability to work positively and productively as a member of a team with colleagues, supervisors, and agency staff.
• Knowledge of community mental health treatment programs and their continuum of care.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices including personnel and systems management.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Computer literate: experience with Microsoft Office at a minimum and experience with electronic medical records and Head Start data software (i.e. ChildPlus) preferred.

LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

• Must have a valid State of Michigan driver’s license and automobile insurance.
