About Us
As an independent developer and publisher, Templar develops the games that we want, on our own schedule. We are actively staffing up for both in-house game development and supporting published titles. Templar provides a professional yet non-corporate environment where every team member's input and collaboration matters. Based in Alpharetta, GA just north of Atlanta, Templar is in the perfect area for those that enjoy sunny weather and a relatively low cost of living.
About the Role:
As a Game Writer at Templar Media, you'll play a key part in shaping the story and narrative experience of our current and upcoming titles. You'll collaborate closely with the design, art, and programming teams as well as project leadership to create the overarching story, character dialogue, and fine details that bring our worlds to life. The ideal candidate has significant experience writing for video games, has worked with branching dialogue systems before, and thrives in a highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Write the core narrative, character arcs, branching dialogue trees, quest lines, and side stories.
  • Develop compelling, voice-distinct dialogue for NPCs, companions, and historical/lรฉgendary figures.
  • Create supporting content such as item descriptions, journal entries, environmental storytelling, codex/lore entries, and UI text.
  • Collaborate with game designers to integrate narrative seamlessly with mechanics (player choices, puzzles, exploration, and consequences).
  • Work with artists and audio teams to support visual and voice-over storytelling.
  • Iterate quickly on feedback from playtests, team reviews, and direction while maintaining tone consistency.
  • Help maintain narrative documentation (story arcs, character sheets, style guides).

Requirements
  • Shipped at least one video game title as a writer
  • Excellent English writing skills with the ability to adapt tone (dramatic, intimate, witty, solemn, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of interactive storytelling, branching narratives, and player psychology.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working remotely with clear communication.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Passion for history, ancient cultures, or biblical-era storytelling is a big plus.
  • Experience on narrative-heavy games (adventure, RPG, choice-driven, or historical titles).
  • Familiarity with tools such as Articy, UE5, Google Docs, Sequencer, etc.
  • Unreal game-engine experience is a bonus but not required.
  • Background in creative writing, screenwriting, or history-related fields.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and religious themes in storytelling.
  • Storyboarding Art
