Internship – Member and Partner Engagement Center

About the National League of Cities

The National League of Cities (NLC) is the voice of America’s cities, towns, and villages, representing more than 19,000 municipalities across the country. NLC works to strengthen local leadership, influence federal policy, and drive innovative solutions to improve the quality of life in communities nationwide.

About the Member and Partner Engagement Center

The Member and Partner Engagement Center is responsible for recruiting, retaining, and engaging NLC’s diverse network of municipal members and corporate partners. The Center includes three key teams:

  • Strategic Partnerships, which cultivates and manages relationships with corporate and philanthropic partners;
  • Member Services and Engagement, which supports cities, towns, and villages in maximizing their NLC membership; and
  • State League Services, which collaborates with state municipal leagues to strengthen the national-local connection.

Together, these teams ensure that NLC’s members and partners are supported, informed, and actively engaged in the organization’s mission.

Position Overview

The Member and Partner Engagement Center is seeking enthusiastic and detail-oriented interns to support its work in strengthening relationships with local governments and strategic partners. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and member services within a national nonprofit organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with member and partner outreach, onboarding, and engagement activities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of member and partner databases and tracking systems.
  • Conduct research on prospective members, corporate partners, and philanthropic organizations.
  • Help prepare presentations, reports, and communications materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Participate in planning and execution of events, webinars, and meetings.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Member and Partner Engagement teams.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate in public administration, nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in stakeholder engagement, nonprofit partnerships, or local government.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
