Introduction to Team

Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

This Mobile Engineer (Android) role is part of the Package Shopping team which sits within our Technology division. The team owns package shopping flows and pricing logic for bundled trips that combine flights, hotels, and other travel products, helping unlock higher-value, higher-margin journeys for travelers. In this role, you will design and implement scalable Android experiences and solutions that contribute to measurable business outcomes across Expedia Group's mobile shopping experiences.

In this role, you will:

Build, enhance, and maintain Android mobile experiences that deliver reliable, intuitive outcomes for travelers and partners.

Translate product requirements into well-structured, maintainable code using appropriate Android development practices and technical judgment.

Contribute to low-level system design, API integration, data modeling, testing, and code reviews within an assigned service or product area.

Collaborate across engineering, product, design, and other technical domains to deliver cohesive mobile capabilities and resolve complex technical issues.

Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve application performance, reliability, security, and operational health throughout the development lifecycle.

Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, while building familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Professional experience developing Android applications and delivering production software within a collaborative engineering environment.

Experience owning and contributing to components or services within a defined product or technical domain.

Proficiency with Android development fundamentals, software engineering practices, API integration, data modeling, testing, version control, and debugging.

Ability to apply low-level system design principles and make sound technical decisions within the scope of assigned work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience delivering Android applications at scale with strong attention to performance, reliability, accessibility, security, and user experience.

Demonstrated ability to improve engineering outcomes through operational excellence, automation, observability, and data-driven decision-making.

Experience contributing to technical designs and architecture decisions that span multiple components or services within a product domain.

Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled mobile experiences or developer tools, including the ability to evaluate and safely apply AI-driven capabilities to real-world products.

Demonstrated fungibility across mobile, backend, or adjacent technical domains, with the ability to collaborate effectively and contribute beyond a single component.

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $111,000.00 to $155,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $177,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
