Social Media Content Creation Specialist (part-time/28 hrs per week)
BYU University Communications is seeking a creative, strategic, and highly skilled social media professional to serve as the primary content creator for the university's official social media channels. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the online presence of Brigham Young University through compelling storytelling, short-form video, and engaging digital content that reflects the university's mission and values.
As a member of the University Communications Social Media Team, this individual will be the lead on content creation for BYU's flagship official social media accounts, including Facebook (365,000+ followers) and Instagram (100,000+ followers), as well as other platforms.
This is a content creation-focused position. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time creating, filming, and editing social media content, particularly short-form video content.
What you will be doing in this position
  • Serve as the primary content creator for BYU's official social media channels, developing engaging photo, video, and short-form content that tells the story of the university.
  • Conceptualize, film, edit, and publish high-quality short-form videos and other multimedia content optimized for social platforms.
  • Identify and pursue compelling storytelling opportunities by collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
  • Source and curate high-quality user-generated content.
  • Collaborate with the social media team to develop and execute content strategies that support university priorities and highlight BYU's unique mission.
  • Analyze social media performance and provide recommendations based on analytics and audience insights.
  • Monitor social media comments and messages and assist with community management.
  • Collaborate with and provide shared oversight of student social media interns

What qualifies you for this role
Ideal candidates are exceptional storytellers who can think strategically, create independently, and thrive in a collaborative environment. They should have a deep understanding of social media trends and best practices and be passionate about producing content that resonates with digital audiences.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Advertising, Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field
  • Proven experience managing social media accounts and creating content for digital platforms
  • Demonstrated experience creating, filming, and editing short-form video content for social media
  • Strong proficiency with video editing software
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and content best practices
  • Experience using social media analytics and applying data to inform content decisions
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in digital storytelling within the higher education vertical
  • Some proficiency of graphic design and/or photography
  • Experience supervising or mentoring student employees or interns
  • Experience with social listening, community management, and content strategy development

Pay Grade: 51
Typical Starting Pay: $28.25-$36.25
The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
