STEM Communications Specialist - ONR
Location: Herndon, VA / Remote
Position Overview
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is seeking a highly motivated STEM Communications Specialist to support Naval STEM Outreach efforts. The specialist will serve as the primary point-of-contact to communicate Department of the Navy (DON) STEM opportunities-including programs like SEAP, NREIP, and others-to students and their families, promoting the STEM future force relevant to the future U.S. STEM workforce.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the point-of-contact to communicate DON STEM opportunities and other relevant programs to students and families.
  • Plan and coordinate STEM outreach events in collaboration with naval sites across the Department of the Navy
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to maximize outreach impact.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, specifically Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to obtain or currently hold a SECRET security clearance prior to award.
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, communications, or journalism with at least five years of experience in science writing, editing, or a related field; OR
    • Master's degree in a STEM field, communications, or journalism with at least two years of experience in science writing, editing, or a related field.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Government, Department of Defense (DoD), or Department of the Navy (DON) internship programs.
