Description & Requirements
What's the role?
Bloomberg's Chief Risk Office (CRO) plays a critical role in supporting our businesses and operations globally. We partner across the firm to identify, assess, and manage risks inherent in delivering world-class financial data, analytics, and news.
The CRO Data Risk Program is responsible for ensuring enterprise data is appropriately governed, protected, and managed throughout its lifecycle-minimizing risk while enabling trusted and responsible use of data.
This role will be instrumental in building and scaling Bloomberg's enterprise data risk management capabilities. You will initially operate in a hybrid capacity across first and second lines of defense, partnering closely with engineering, data, and product teams to establish foundational data governance capabilities. As the program matures, the role will transition toward a dedicated second line of defense function, focused on governance, oversight, and independent challenge.
The CRO Data Risk team provides enterprise oversight across key capabilities including Data Inventory, Data Classification, Data Discovery, Metadata Management, and Data Lineage.
We'll trust you to:
  • Drive planning and execution of key workstreams within the CRO Data Risk Program
  • Partner with Engineering, Data, Product, CISO, CTO, and Legal & Compliance teams to define and implement data governance and data risk capabilities
  • Establish and maintain data risk management frameworks, standards, and controls aligned with business and regulatory expectations
  • Support and guide the implementation of capabilities such as data classification, data discovery, metadata management, and data lineage
  • Provide oversight and challenge to first line teams as capabilities mature, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards
  • Identify capability gaps and prioritize enhancements based on risk, regulatory requirements, and most importantly business needs
  • Develop and deliver metrics, dashboards, and reporting to measure program adoption, control effectiveness, and maturity (e.g., data classification coverage, lineage completeness, policy adherence)
  • Monitor and assess data risk posture and control effectiveness, escalating risks and issues as appropriate
  • Collaborate with partners across Operational Resilience, Privacy, and Compliance to translate regulatory expectations into practical data controls and capabilities
  • Contribute to data risk training and awareness programs across the organization
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in data governance and data risk management practices

You'll need to have:
  • 5 - 8+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or data risk management
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Experience working across technology, data, risk, privacy, or compliance functions
  • Hands-on experience implementing or supporting data governance capabilities (e.g., data classification, metadata management, data lineage, or data discovery)
  • Understanding of data risk concepts, including data protection, regulatory expectations, and control design
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience with data governance or data management tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Varonis)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and SaaS-based data ecosystems
  • Experience working in agile or iterative delivery environments
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating across a global organization

We'd love to see:
Certifications such as DCAM, DAMA, PMP, or CSM
