Project Engineer, Commercial Construction
Location: Duluth, GA
Work Setting: In office and active job sites as needed
Employment Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $60,000 to $80,000 base salary
Quick Summary:
We are seeking a Project Engineer with commercial construction experience to support project management, field coordination, documentation, scheduling, subcontractor communication, and project closeout.
Direct commercial general contractor experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should have hands-on experience supporting RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, drawings/specs, meeting minutes, project logs, closeout documentation, subcontractor communication, and field/office coordination.
Position Overview:
A growing commercial general contractor is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the technical and administrative side of commercial construction projects. This role will assist the project management team with documentation, coordination, tracking, and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable reading construction documents, and eager to grow within commercial construction project management.
Candidates whose experience is primarily facilities, maintenance, owner-side project coordination, residential, roofing, specialty subcontractor, or administrative project support may not align unless they have direct commercial GC project engineering experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and other project documentation.
Maintain project logs, tracking documents, meeting notes, and project files.
Support communication between project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams.
Review drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
Help track materials, procurement, deliveries, and project documentation.
Support project scheduling and coordination of trades.
Assist with quality control, punch list tracking, and closeout documentation.
Attend project meetings and assist with meeting minutes and follow-up items.
Help ensure documentation is accurate, organized, and updated throughout the project.
Assist superintendents and project managers with field-related tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications:
1 to 3 years of experience in commercial construction, construction management, engineering, project engineering, field engineering, or a related field.
Relevant internship or co-op experience in commercial construction will be considered.
Experience working directly with or for a commercial general contractor is strongly preferred.
Solid understanding of construction processes, documentation, and project coordination.
Hands-on experience or strong familiarity with RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, drawings, specifications, project logs, meeting minutes, and closeout documentation.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Ability to coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams.
Strong organizational, communication, follow-up, and documentation skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Experience with construction software such as Procore, ProjectSight, PlanGrid, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or Bluebeam is a plus.
Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera is a plus.
OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
Equivalent experience may be considered for candidates with strong commercial construction exposure.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to walk active job sites, climb ladders, and work in active construction environments.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Ability to commute to the Duluth, GA area.
Stable work history and strong professional references preferred.
