Job description

About Abridge

Abridge was founded in 2018 with the mission of powering deeper understanding in healthcare. Our AI-powered platform was purpose-built for medical conversations, improving clinical documentation efficiencies while enabling clinicians to focus on what matters most—their patients.

Our enterprise-grade technology transforms patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real-time, with deep EMR integrations. Powered by Linked Evidence and our purpose-built, auditable AI, we are the only company that maps AI-generated summaries to ground truth, helping providers quickly trust and verify the output. As pioneers in generative AI for healthcare, we are setting the industry standards for the responsible deployment of AI across health systems.

We are a growing team of practicing MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, creatives, technologists, and engineers working together to empower people and make care make more sense. We have offices located in the Mission District in San Francisco, the SoHo neighborhood of New York, and East Liberty in Pittsburgh.

The Role

We\'re looking for Software Engineering Interns to join Abridge\'s Engineering team for a 3-month internship program in Fall 2026, with the possibility of extension. You\'ll collaborate with our engineering team to build and ship real-world features that translate cutting-edge language model capabilities into dependable clinical systems. With mentorship and guidance, you\'ll gain hands-on experience designing, coding, and releasing AI-powered software that makes a meaningful impact on clinicians\' workflows.

What You\'ll Do

  • Design and build end-to-end features, enhancing our existing systems and contributing to agentic LLM workflows (retrieval pipelines, structured tool use, chained LLM calls)

  • Fix user-facing bugs and issues, and make quality-of-life improvements across our backend and frontend systems

  • Get hands-on with evaluation frameworks that measure accuracy, robustness, and clinical reliability

  • Help prototype with new models, prompting techniques, and open-source orchestration tools (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.)

  • Develop a strong user-centric mindset, building empathy for Abridge\'s clinicians and the challenges they face

  • Collaborate across cross-functional product teams — design, product, machine learning, and infrastructure — to ship features to our customers

  • Receive guidance from an experienced software engineering mentor, and collaborate one-on-one with teammates within your pod

What You\'ll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field

  • A strong interest in pursuing a full-time software engineering role in 2027 — high-performing interns are eligible to receive a return offer

  • AI tooling is already part of how you work — you use it to write, debug, and learn faster, and you know when to trust it vs. verify

  • Passion for and understanding of Abridge\'s mission

  • A curious, adaptable, and proactive mindset, with a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced startup environment

  • A collaborative, low-ego mindset — we move fast, and we need team players who are eager to contribute wherever needed

Base Salary: $40/hr

Must be willing to work from our San Francisco (Potrero) or New York City (SoHo) office 5x per week.

This internship is based in our San Francisco or New York City office. Relocation to either location will be supported through reimbursements.
