About GMP Advisors
For over 75 years, GMP has been a trusted partner to East Texas businesses, families, and communities. Headquartered in Tyler, Texas, GMP Advisors and GMP Assurance PLLC together provide tax, advisory, assurance, and client accounting services through an alternative practice structure. We believe that great client service starts with great people - and we are committed to building a team where careers are built, not just filled.
The Role
GMP is seeking a CAAS Staff Accountant to join our Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) team in Tyler, Texas. This is an entry-level position designed for accounting professionals who are eager to learn, build strong client relationships, and grow into a long-term career in client advisory services.
The CAAS Staff Accountant will work alongside experienced CAAS Seniors, Controllers, and Partners - gaining hands-on exposure to a wide range of client industries and accounting workflows from day one. This role is the starting point of a clearly defined career path within GMP's CAAS department, with built-in development milestones leading to Senior, Controller, and ultimately Partner-track opportunities.
The CAAS Staff Accountant will:
  • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping for assigned clients, including transaction coding, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and on schedule
  • Prepare monthly client financial reports under the direction of CAAS Seniors
  • Assist with payroll processing, payroll tax filings, and sales and excise tax reports
  • Support month-end close activities and contribute to client financial reporting
  • Maintain organized, accurate client workpapers and documentation that meet firm quality standards
  • Communicate professionally with clients on routine inquiries and requests
  • Apply firm best practices, internal controls, and quality standards consistently across all client work
  • Seek mentorship and feedback from senior team members to accelerate your professional development
  • Use QuickBooks Online and other client accounting platforms proficiently

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (recent graduates welcome)
  • 0-2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related professional experience
  • Working knowledge of accounting fundamentals (debits/credits, general ledger, journal entries)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; comfort working in technology-forward environments
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online preferred, or strong willingness to learn quickly
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple client deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in client-facing settings
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute within a collaborative public accounting environment
  • Prior internship experience at a public accounting firm (preferred, but not required)
  • Familiarity with additional accounting platforms (Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Xero) or AI-enabled accounting tools

CPA candidate or active progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
This position is located in Tyler, TX and will require candidates to be local or open to relocation.
