Job description

Position Summary
Busey Bank, a growing financial institution with over 150 years of service and operations across ten states, including Illinois and Kansas, is seeking an initiative-taking and intellectually curious Finance Intern to join our Finance team for the summer. This internship is ideal for students in quantitatively focused undergraduate or graduate programs who want hands-on experience applying analytical, data, and risk-based skills in a real banking environment. As a Finance Intern, you will support strategic priorities across the enterprise.
Throughout the internship, you will work closely with an experienced risk professional(s) and gain exposure to risk domains such as:
• Treasury and Asset-Liability Management (ALM) - balances a bank's liquidity, funding and interest rate exposure to maintain financial health. Support the development and enhancement of deposit analysis - roll forward deposit movement, transfers/cannibalization, decay analysis, deposit beta, core vs non-core deposits, surge balances, customer segmentation, analyze success of pricing initiatives.
• Retail and Consumer Banking - day to day money management (checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposits), lending (mortgages for home buying, auto loans, personal loans, credit cards), wealth management and advisory (services ranging from retirement planning to investment services)
• Commercial and Corporate Banking - commercial lending (term loans, revolving lines of credit, syndicated loans), treasury and cash management (services for optimizing cash flow)
Your internship will be project-based, with opportunities to contribute to foundational elements of risk management programs or to enhance existing frameworks to support Busey's continued growth.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support the development and enhancement of deposit analysis - roll forward deposit movement, transfers/cannibalization, decay analysis, deposit beta, core vs non-core deposits, surge balances, customer segmentation, success of pricing initiatives.
  • Assist with risk assessments: liquidity risk, interest rate risk, concentration risk, identify trends and emerging risks, identify and support strategic data driven solutions.
  • Conduct analysis of loans prepayments and curtailment.
  • Build or enhance dashboards and reporting tools using Excel and/or Power BI or similar analytic platforms.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to evaluate controls, process maps, and risk indicators.
  • Perform research on regulatory expectations, industry practices, and enterprise risk management.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and actionable presentations or reports for project sponsors and risk leaders.
  • Exhibit high standards for customer service through adherence to The Busey Promise and Service Plus service model.

Education & Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program with a focus in finance, business administration, operations management, management information systems, business analytics, computer information sciences, or related areas of study.
  • Or, hold a Bachelor's degree in the fields above and actively enrolled in a Master's degree programs for MBA, finance, business analytics or related fields.

Experience and Skills:
  • 0-3 years of experience in finance, business analytics, or financial modeling (internships and research projects considered).
  • Experience with business analytic tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Experience leveraging AI agents for coding, model development and problem solving.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts/findings into actionable business insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities, attention to detail, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within team settings.

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate studies with a concentration in Business, Finance, or related field

Benefits And Compensation Salary offered is based on factors, including but not limited to, the job duties, required qualifications and relevant experience, and local market trends. The role may be eligible for bonus or incentives based on company and individual performance.
