Join our Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) team in a key leadership role where you'll help shape and support the operations of our PRNR system!
This position provides strategic leadership and technical expertise for the Parks Internal Operations Division, overseeing daily operations, maintenance, planning, budgeting, and team coordination. Working collaboratively with department leadership, staff across the organization, and external partners, you'll help develop policies, drive strategic initiatives, improve operational efficiency, and ensure our parks and natural resources continue to serve the community at the highest level. In this role, you will...

  • Lead the Parks Internal Operations Division in the development and implementation of department and division goals.

  • Work with staff and contractors to provide well-maintained parks and venues, to assure appropriate use of parks, and to plan and implement projects in parks

  • Work with division managers to prioritize projects based on asset age and condition, operational need and available funding; assure appropriate scheduling of preventive maintenance work within parks

  • Implement and promote universal design and accessible improvements in conjunction with the PRNR ADA Transition Plan.

  • Administer and manage the division's operating budget and several Surtax capital programs. Contribute to development of operating impacts for capital projects.

  • Serve as the PRNR Department Operations Center (DOC) Operations Section Chief during disaster activation (e.g., hurricanes).

  • Develop, coach, and mentor assigned staff.

  • Oversee the work management system, assuring the PRNR management team receives accurate data and reports.

  • Work with EIT to create reports and work management functions.

  • Lead the effort to capture all park assets in Maximo and assist with GIS efforts to map assets.

  • Assess and track the condition of all park assets, and identify projects that need repairs and replacements for entry into the work management system.

  • Collaborate to utilize technology for efficiency in tracking and maintaining assets and associated lifecycles.

  • Present suggestions for improvements, replacements, and appropriate use of budget to the management team.

  • Collaborate on updates to the Maintenance Standards Manual.

  • Participate in park planning function and associated activities as it relates to park maintenance

  • Serve as a resource for PRNR's capital program and for Facilities Maintenance, Transportation, Risk, and Office of Financial Management.

  • Assist with review and approval of park development designs and proposals to ensure that the park and amenities will function appropriately, are designed for efficient maintenance, and meet construction, maintenance, and lifecycle standards.

  • Provide input on design standards/guidelines.

  • Provide input for park code amendments, resolutions, County Commission reports, letters, and other correspondence for signature by administrators and the Board Chair.

  • Responds to complaints, investigates problems, and provides resolution to a wide range of issues or problems.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (no weekends!)

  • As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in project management, recreation, leisure services, one of the biological or natural sciences, or a related field

  • -AND- six (6) years of professional experience related to the position

  • -AND- at least four (4) or more years of supervisory experience.

  • -OR- A Master's degree can substitute for two years of professional experience.

  • May consider substituting years of experience for the 4-year degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced professional certification highly desirable.

  • Construction background highly recommended.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.

Starting Pay Range: $84,822.40 - $99,944.00, based on experience.
