Position Summary
TheProfessional Intern/Technical role within the COSMIAC organization isfundamental to supporting engineering efforts for spaceflight missions procuredthrough grants and contracts. This position entails overseeing the alignment ofhardware and payload designs with scientific requirements and contributingengineering expertise to various research projects under the guidance of aprincipal investigator.
Responsibilitiesencompass collecting, analyzing, and disseminating space-based data, as well asconducting applied research and executing analytical studies. The role may alsoinvolve providing functional leadership and guidance to team members.
Moreover,the successful candidate will conduct functional analysis of electrical designsand employ statistical analysis techniques to assess outcomes. Proficiency insoftware tools is essential for manipulating complex datasets and generatingreports.
Designing,constructing, and testing specialized equipment and instrumentation pertinentto national defense, space exploration, or environmental research forms anintegral part of the role. Collaboration with procurement and human resourcesteams ensures resource availability for job success.
TheProfessional Intern/Technical role requires both independent work andcollaboration within multidisciplinary teams, coupled with effectiveprioritization to meet project deadlines. Flexibility to travel to variouslocations, on and off-site, is essential.
This position also involves undertaking a professional internship aimed atproviding recent college graduates in applied engineering or other advancedtechnical fields with on-the-job training and experience. Interns engage indiverse work assignments, projects, and activities of varying technicalcomplexity, structured to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, andabilities for performing at a professional, technical level. Training andmentorship are provided for planning and executing activities and assignments.Typically, this is a fixed-term position lasting up to 24 months.
  • Conducts functional analysis of electrical designs toassess institutional resources available for completing complex programs.
  • Employssoftware to design, manipulate, summarize, and generate reports from multiple,large, and complex data sets and generic design features.
  • Designs,builds, and tests special-purpose equipment and/or instrumentation for researchpurposes related to national defense, outer space, industry, or the globalenvironment..
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and as part of amultidisciplinary team, prioritize work tasks, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to off-site and on-base locations asrequired.
  • Ademonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success,as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Minimum Qualifications
Must have obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree or higher level of Science degree, related to the work to be completed, no more than 24 months prior to the date of hire OR if the Bachelor's of Science (or higher level) degree was obtained more than 24 months prior to the date of hire, the individual must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's (or higher) degree program; no previous experience required.
