Summary:

The Academy for Career Readiness Intern is an educational and training-based position designed to introduce participants to entry-level healthcare careers. Interns will engage in foundational training and have the opportunity to specialize in one of several key roles within the healthcare system, including:

  • Unit Secretary
  • Patient Care Technician
  • Patient Transporter
  • Environmental Services Associate
  • Patient Access Liaison
  • Medical Practice Patient Representative

This internship provides hands-on exposure, skill-building, and career exploration to prepare individuals especially young adults for future employment in healthcare.

Responsibilities:

  1. Attends all required training sessions and arrives on time for classes, shifts, and shadowing experiences.

  2. Participates fully in training and shadowing experiences with a positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn.

  3. Engages in the training plan and performs learned tasks appropriate to the selected specialization.

  4. Under supervision, delivers safe, direct care or support services in alignment with the intern designated role (e.g., Patient Care Technician, Patient Access Liaison, Environmental Services Associate, Patient Transporter, Unit Secretary, Medical Practice Patient Representative).

  5. Trains and works in accordance with Nuvance Health policies, procedures, and safety standards.

  6. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.

  7. Supports and contributes to the implementation of Nuvance Health mission and organizational goals.

  8. Practices effective communication and actively listens to coworkers, patients, and families to understand and meet their needs.

  9. Demonstrates a commitment to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of coworkers and patients, treating all personal and medical information with respect.

  10. Recognizes and values the diversity of coworkers, patients, and customers by honoring their perspectives, choices, and differences.

  11. Models and maintains organizational values.

  12. Performs other responsibilities as assigned, within the scope of the intern role and training objectives.

  13. Participates in self-assessment, reflection activities, and feedback sessions to support personal growth and career readiness.

  14. Maintains and Models Nuvance Health Values.

  15. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

  16. Performs other duties as required.

 
Education and Experience Requirements
 
No high school diploma or GED required.
Minium Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
Ability to read and write in English, as determined by individual role requirements.
Willing to learn and actively participate in training.
Interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful communication.
Open to feedback and personal growth in a structured learning environment.
