About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support the Gwinnett County IT department. The ideal candidate will create and maintain technical documentation including SOPs, standards, user guides, flowcharts, training materials, and interactive forms for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities:
  • Document IT processes, standards, and internal applications

  • Develop SOPs, manuals, technical specifications, and training materials

  • Collaborate with SMEs, engineers, developers, and project teams

  • Gather and validate technical and business requirements

  • Create flowcharts, diagrams, charts, and visual aids

  • Edit and maintain documentation for accuracy and consistency

  • Ensure documentation aligns with organizational standards and process updates

  • Maintain templates, formatting standards, and best practices

  • Recommend improvements to documentation tools and workflows

  • Provide guidance on documentation standards when needed

Requirements:
  • 6+ years of professional technical writing experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Strong experience creating SOPs, standards, software instructions, and technical documentation

  • Experience with Information Mapping or topic-based writing methodologies

  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and grammar skills

  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts into user-friendly language

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong document formatting and template management skills

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
