Job description

Job Overview:
APTIM is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Science or Engineering Intern to support ongoing environmental remediation and operations projects near Yakima, WA. This part-time internship provides hands-on experience working alongside experienced environmental professionals in both field and office settings.
The successful candidate will assist with environmental sampling, data collection, operation and maintenance activities for treatment systems, report preparation, and general project support. This position is ideal for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in environmental consulting, remediation, and compliance projects.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Assist project staff with operation and maintenance activities for Point-of-Entry Treatment (POET) Systems and other environmental treatment equipment.
  • Support environmental field sampling activities, including groundwater, soil, and water sample collection.
  • Assist with documenting field observations and collecting environmental data.
  • Help maintain field equipment and perform basic equipment calibration under supervision.
  • Support preparation of technical reports, field logs, and project documentation.
  • Assist with data entry, quality review, and organization of project records.
  • Observe and support subcontractor oversight activities.
  • Participate in project meetings and safety briefings.
  • Follow all APTIM safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements.
  • Perform other project-related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Strong interest in environmental remediation, field investigations, and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain, lifting equipment, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Valid Driver's License preferred.

Work Schedule:
  • Part-time internship (approximately 5-20 hours per week).
  • Flexible schedule designed to accommodate academic commitments.
  • Local travel to project sites is required.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00 Per Hour.
