Technical Writer Intern โ€“ Job Overview:

The Technical Writer Intern is responsible for creating clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation that explains complex technical products and systems. This role has a direct impact across the organization, producing customer-facing materials that influence product understanding and user experience. This position reports to Senior Product Management and works closely with engineering, product management, and marketing to gather information, drive clarity, and produce high-quality documentation. This role requires a proactive, self-directed individual who takes full ownership of documentation and is comfortable operating in an environment where information may be incomplete or evolving. Success in this role requires someone who asks direct questions, follows up persistently, and ensures documentation moves forward without waiting on direction.

The compensation for this role is $25-30/hr. and comes with flexible scheduling, paid holidays, and additional paid time off.

Technical Writer Intern โ€“ How You'll Make an Impact:
  • Own the documentation lifecycle from initial information gathering through final publication, ensuring progress is not blocked by missing or unclear information.
  • Develop and maintain customer-facing technical documentation, including but not limited to:
    • User manuals
    • Installation and quick-start guides
    • Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
    • Troubleshooting guides
    • Release notes
    • Product specifications
  • Proactively engage engineers, product managers, and other subject matter experts to gather technical details.
  • Drive conversations with stakeholders, asking direct questions and persistently following up to obtain complete and accurate information.
  • Identify gaps in existing documentation and take initiative to resolve them without being assigned.
  • Learn and develop working knowledge across multiple products and product lines in order to produce accurate and relevant documentation.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-focused content with the end user in mind.
  • Organize and structure documentation for ease of use and accessibility.
  • Review, edit, and update documentation to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Partner with Product Management to refine documentation and ensure alignment with product intent.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to ensure consistent messaging, tone, and branding.
  • Manage documentation versions and maintain centralized repositories.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools, processes, and SOPs to improve documentation workflows and knowledge management.ย
