Security Systems & Access Control Technician
Position Summary
The Security Systems & Access Control Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, commissioning, and service of electronic security systems including card access systems, door hardware integration, and IP-based camera systems. This role also supports structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure required for security systems.
The technician will work on commercial and industrial projects installing & servicing access control devices, door hardware, surveillance cameras, and supporting network infrastructure, ensuring systems are installed, programmed, and operating according to company, manufacturer, and customer standards.
Key Responsibilities
Access Control & Door Hardware
  • Install, configure, and service access control systems including card readers, door controllers, electrified door hardware, and locking devices.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot electric strikes, magnetic locks, request-to-exit devices, door position switches, and related door hardware.
  • Program and commission access control systems including user credentials, access levels, schedules, and door configurations.
  • Work with systems such as Kantech, or similar enterprise access control platforms.

Video Surveillance Systems
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot IP-based camera systems.
  • Program and configure video management systems (VMS) including camera setup, recording schedules, and network integration.
  • Work with systems such as Hanwha or similar surveillance platforms.
  • Assist with system commissioning and customer demonstrations.

Structured Cabling & Fiber
  • Install and terminate structured cabling including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling supporting security systems.
  • Terminate and test fiber optic cable using fusion splicing equipment.
  • Install cable pathways, racks, patch panels, and support hardware.
  • Test and certify cabling to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Project Execution & Support
  • Interpret blueprints, security drawings, wiring diagrams, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers and field teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and perform service and maintenance when required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including timesheets, work orders, change orders, and as-built drawings.
  • Serve as an on-site technical contact for customers and contractors when necessary.

Qualifications:
Required
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience installing electronic security systems.
  • Experience installing access control systems, CCTV, and structured cabling.
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Critical and Independent thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred
  • Experience with Kantech access control systems.
  • Experience with Hanwha camera systems.
  • BICSI Certification or equivalent low-voltage certification.
  • Fiber optic fusion splicing experience.
  • OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift moderate weight equipment and materials.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, climbing, and ladder work.
  • Ability to operate scissor lifts, boom lifts, and bucket trucks safely.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
