Position Overview

Oculens is seeking a Senior Level Access Control Technician to assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of modern security systems including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and related infrastructure.


This role involves  traveling to installation sites, where you will work alongside electricians, technicians, and project managers to deploy systems in commercial and institutional environments.

The ideal candidate has experience with door hardware installation, including installing concealed/surface rod panic bars, magnetic locks, rim strikes, etc.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the installation, configuration, and commissioning of enterprise access control systems, card readers, door hardware, and integrated security solutions
  • Install and troubleshoot concealed/surface rod panic bars, magnetic locks, electric strikes, rim strikes, door position switches, request-to-exit devices, and related hardware
  • Program, configure, and test access control panels, controllers, readers, and network-connected security devices
  • Install and integrate ADA operators, inbound/outbound activation devices, and automated door systems with access control platforms
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, networking, and system integration issues
  • Interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, hardware schedules, and project specifications to ensure accurate installations
  • Lead field crews and coordinate with project managers, electricians, general contractors, and customer representatives during deployments
  • Perform system commissioning, quality assurance testing, and client training upon project completion
  • Document installations, programming changes, as-built drawings, and service reports
  • Ensure all work complies with company standards, manufacturer requirements, life safety codes, and project specifications
  • Travel to project sites throughout the United States, including multi-day installations and service assignments
  • Assist with project planning, material verification, and mentoring junior technicians


Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting commercial access control systems and door hardware
  • Extensive experience with electric locking hardware, including magnetic locks, electric strikes, panic hardware, ADA operators, and integrated door solutions
  • Proven experience programming and commissioning access control systems in commercial, government, educational, or institutional environments
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage wiring, cable termination, system testing, and troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of IP networking, including TCP/IP, switches, VLANs, routers, and device communication
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, hardware schedules, wiring diagrams, and construction documents
  • Experience leading projects or supervising technicians in the field
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and active construction sites
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively as required
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise access control platforms, specifically Verkada
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of IP-based video surveillance systems
  • Advanced experience installing and programming Verkada access control and camera systems
  • Low-voltage, electrical, or security industry certifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Lift, scissor lift, or boom lift certification
  • Experience bending, installing, and terminating conduit in commercial environments
  • Knowledge of life safety codes, fire alarm interfaces, and door hardware compliance requirements
  • Experience managing project schedules, field crews, and customer communications
  • Manufacturer certifications from leading access control or surveillance vendors
  • Military, government, healthcare, education, or critical infrastructure security experience
  • Experience estimating projects, reviewing scopes of work, and assisting with project management activities
