What types of databases and technologies will I typically work with as an Intermediate Database Administrator, and how much autonomy can I expect in managing them?

As an Intermediate Database Administrator, you’ll commonly work with relational database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL, and may also encounter NoSQL databases depending on your organization’s needs. You’ll be responsible for tasks such as performance tuning, backups, patching, and user permissions, often collaborating with developers and IT support. While you’ll have more autonomy than a junior DBA, including ownership of certain projects or database environments, you’ll still work under the guidance of senior administrators and architects, with ample opportunities to expand your technical skills and take on leadership in complex troubleshooting or optimization efforts.

Is DBA still in demand?

The role of an Intermediate Database Administrator remains in demand as organizations continue to rely on databases for data management, analytics, and application support. To thrive as an Intermediate Database Administrator, you need a solid understanding of database management, SQL, data modeling, and typically a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with database platforms like Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL, and familiarity with backup, recovery, and monitoring tools are expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you manage complex data environments and collaborate with technical teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring data integrity, optimizing database performance, and supporting organizational data needs.

What are Intermediate Database Administrators?

Intermediate Database Administrators are IT professionals responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing databases at a mid-level of experience and expertise. They handle tasks such as installing database software, monitoring performance, implementing backup and recovery procedures, and ensuring data security. Intermediate DBAs often collaborate with developers to optimize queries and resolve database-related issues. They typically work under the guidance of senior administrators while also mentoring junior staff.

Will AI replace DBAs?

AI is unlikely to fully replace Intermediate Database Administrators, as their roles involve complex tasks such as database design, performance tuning, and security management that require human judgment. Instead, AI tools are expected to augment their work by automating routine tasks, allowing DBAs to focus on strategic and complex problem-solving. Continuous learning and familiarity with database management systems and scripting are important for adapting to technological changes.

Company Introduction

IT ALL STARTED 35 YEARS AGO WITH TWO GUYS DRIVEN BY HUNGER
The year was 1982.
Jim Disbrow and Scott Lowery had recently moved to Ohio from Buffalo, New York. All was fine until one day when the two were craving wings. Not just ordinary wings, but authentic Buffalo, New York-style chicken wings. With none to be found nearby, Jim and Scott had two choices: road trip to New York, or open a wing joint close to home. Lucky for us, they chose the latter. Hence, the beginning of Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck, now Buffalo Wild Wings, the welcoming neighborhood atmosphere with a front-row seat for every sports fan that offers 21 mouth-watering signature sauces and seasonings.
