Job description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced MSSQL Developer (DBA Engineer) to join a small, highly technical team of SQL Server engineers globally. This team focuses on designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining MSSQL based data platforms across all environments (AWS, Azure, On-Prem). This role requires an MSSQL engineer/developer who can operate with a high degree of autonomy while maintaining strong technical and architectural alignment with global stakeholders. This is a hands‑on technical role that combines deep system level understanding, strong SQL Server development expertise, and direct contribution to the design, performance, and reliability of our MSSQL platform. Knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities
  • Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing, education, and production usage.
  • Performs capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases.
  • Works closely with system administration to formulate and execute remediation plans where existing database deployments fall short of industry and company standards.
  • Assists in troubleshooting efforts when data integrity or database performance is suspected to be a possible cause of service issues.
  • Performs ongoing tuning of the database instances.
  • Installs new versions of the MSSQL and its tools and any other tools that access the SQL database.
  • Plans and implements backup and recovery of the MSSQL database.
  • Advise development teams on appropriate database server deployment and configuration.
  • Implements and enforces security for all the SQL Databases.
  • Performs database re‑organisations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum uptime of the database.
  • Supports service delivery and development teams by refreshing non‑production database environments.
  • Tests patches to ensure compatibility with the database environment and participates in regular patching cycle.
  • Enforces and maintains database constraints to ensure the integrity of the database.
  • Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages, and procedures.
  • Assists with impact analysis of any changes made to the database objects.
  • Monitors database alerts and responds to issues and errors.
  • Assesses, develops, and improves database high availability / disaster recovery strategy.
  • Implements maintenance plans and monitoring to ensure database instances are running optimally and making best use of computing resources.
  • Contributes to the overall strategy for the Enterprise Solutions SQL Server estate supporting internal applications.
  • Supports developers to ensure their applications query the database in the most efficient, possible way.
  • Assists with expertise to new projects in order to define the best technologies and approaches to use from the DBA perspective.
  • Assists to resolve day‑to‑day incidents with our assets.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of experience as an MSSQL DBA and SQL Developer.
  • 7 years of experience with physical and logical MSSQL Server and database design knowledge.
  • 7 years of experience with strong SQL DB architecture logical and physical understanding.
  • 7 years of experience in database performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • 7 years of experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • At least 7 years of experience with strong SQL DB architecture logical and physical understanding.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder who has an active Public Trust Clearance.
  • Ability to perform both MSSQL and operating system performance monitoring and the necessary adjustments.
  • Other DB engines like Oracle, MySQL and Postgres databases are a plus.
  • Good knowledge of operating systems and experience/understanding with DevOps and automation tools and basic knowledge about CloudOps processes.
  • Monitoring tools and alerting like Data Dog and Pager Duty.
  • Excellent knowledge of MSSQL backup and recovery scenarios.
  • Excellent skills in all Microsoft tools: SSMS, SSRS, SSIS.
  • Excellent knowledge of MSSQL security management.

This is an amazing opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team who works on a wide range of technologies. The team consists of 8 DBA colleagues across 3 different time zones (EMEA, US, India).

Hours of Work

Full time, permanent position. Hybrid working schedule on‑site 2‑3 days/week. Must live within a commutable distance to one of our US office locations – Philadelphia, PA highly preferred. Will also consider Alexandria, VA.
